March – Irish Festival

A festival located in Church Hill. Usually the weekend after St. Patrick’s Day, this festival boasts Irish musicians, bagpipers and dancers, food, crafts and more. Proceeds benefit the St. Baldrick’s Society and their fight against childhood cancer, the Church Hill Association of RVA, the Church Hill Crime Watch, Richmond Hill, Child Saver’s Clinic of Richmond, St. John’s Church, the St. Peter’s Meals Program, Stone’s Circle of Friends and many other neighborhood causes. For details, vendor information and more visit the official Irish Festival website.

The Hill Topper 5K

Sign up for a race that will take you through the beautiful neighborhood and parks of Church Hill. The race ends right in the middle of the Church HIll Irish Festival. Presented by Bon Secours Richmond Health Systems, the Church Hill Association of RVA, and the Church Hill Irish Festival, it benefits the Robinson Theater Community Arts Center! All levels of runners and walkers welcome. Sign up for the race!

Spring & Fall – Libby Park Yard Sale

Each Spring and Fall neighbors come out to the park to sell their unwanted goods. The neighborhood-wide yard sales help us keep yard sales to a minimum, but also provide neighbor exchange opportunities. Watch our website for more information.

June & August – Membership Picnics

Rather than having meetings, each June and August (usually the 3rd Tuesday in the month), our CHA of RVA hosts a picnic for members and prospective members. Picnics locations are announced in the month previous.

October – Hogtoberfest

The first weekend in October. If you were a fan of the previous pork festivals on the Hill you’re going to love CHA of RVA’s joint venture with StyleWeekly. Hogotberfest celebrates local BBQ, live music and beer with over 3000 attendees. Watch StyleWeekly and this CHA of RVA website for more information.

December – Church Hill Holiday Festival

On the second Friday of December, CHA of RVA hosts a free Holiday Candlelight Walk through the streets of Church Hill, following the traditional vesper’s service to Libby Park. Participants are given candles to carry, and are led by carolers and bagpipers from Greater Richmond Pipes and Drums. This event draws thousands each year, and kicks-off three days of holiday celebrations!

On Saturday, neighbors and guests are invited to dress up a little and celebrate the season at at the annual Holiday Ball, at a special location, with food provided by amazing local restaurants. Buy tickets!

Finally, on Sunday, residents open their doors to feature homes of varying size, age and luster for Holiday House Tours.  Designed by Major William Mayo in 1737, historic Church Hill is Richmond’s oldest intact neighborhood and contains the most antebellum structures in the city.  The neighborhood is an ecclectic mix of Federal, Greek Revival and Victorian homes alongside innovative condominiums built in old schools houses, bakeries and churches with a growing number of world-class restaurants and parks. Enjoy tours and get a peek into unique spaces decorated for the holidays! Buy tickets!

For all the events in the area visit Church Hill People’s News (CHPN) event calendar, and RVANews for local and city-wide events.
